Motivating Leaders In A Diverse World - Empowering People To Be Leaders

ConnectWorking™
This is the era of ConnectWorking™, the era of raising the bar of networking. While networking for many people is collecting business cards and data from people, writing them a little note after meeting and, if you don’t see an immediate opportunity, you move on. You will probably keep in touch once a year…or not.
ConnectWorking™ is the process of connecting with your networking and connecting your members to each other to increase their productivity, profitability, resources and enhance their life.
ConnectWorking™ is different. ConnectWorking™ is connecting the dots between the needs and services of the people within your network and the rest of the people within your network who can fill those needs and services. You become the facilitator of their success, think matchmaker. ConnectWorking™ enables you to be a resource to others.
Your instinct may be to say… “Hey, why should I help them, I’m too busy”. However, just as you served as a connector for them – they will in turn seek to serve as a connector for you.
A very wealthy man shared with his daughter how he accumulated his riches. “I enjoy the people I meet and I enjoy helping them succeed. They happily share their prosperity and success with me.”
That is the key; to enjoy the people we connect with and then include them in our network. When we do that we are invested in their success. We seek opportunities for them and they for us.
We may not have opportunities for everyone – however we can be on the lookout. We can keep in touch so that we know what others are looking for and can share what we are looking for.
ConnectWorking™ is a process of give and take. Our responsibility is to:- Learn from the members in our network what they are dreaming of, what opportunities they are seeking and what kinds of assistance they require.
- Share with our members what we are dreaming of, what opportunities we are seeking and what kind of assistance we require.
- Seek ways to connect people to each other. To help them achieve their dreams, take advantage of the opportunities they are seeking and receive the assistance they need.

Pegine's Thought of the Month:
“You are God’s gift to the world. If you don’t believe that, it is time for you to change how you think about yourself.
~Pegine Echevarria

Quotes of the Month:
"Position yourself as a center of influence - the one who knows the movers and shakers. People will respond to that, and you'll soon become what you project."
~Bob Burg
"The best prospect is the client who has already dealt with you. The second best is the one referred to by a client who has dealt with you previously. The third best is the one referred to you by another trusted professional or friend."
~Marilyn Jennings
"Connectors thrive because they actively seek to move the value of their networks from one contact to another. They know—they trust—that this interaction will benefit them, too. Their networking isn't a matter of "help me, right now," but rather of finding common elements among the people they've known for years and the new people they're meeting.."
~Liz Ryan

Try-its:
ConnectWorking™ events are meetings, conferences and group gatherings where the goal is to not only network but to also connect the dots, connect the dreams, connect the opportunities and connect the needs with solutions.
To create a ConnectWorking™ event at your next meeting, conference or group gathering follow the following guidelines. Provide an environment where people feel valued and cared for:
- Take the time to set the mood. On the simplest level, this may include adding artificial trees lit with flashlights hidden in the baskets, or with Christmas lights draped on the trees.
- Have smiling designated people greet guests as they arrive and have these smiling people introduce guests to others in the room.
- Meet new people and help them to feel welcome
- Learn their names
- Make an agreement that both of you can repeat and ask each others names when ever they see each other – we all forget names it is human and when we give each other permission to say “I’m sorry, what is your name again” our relationships grow easily.
Ask three questions:
- What brought them to the event?
- Who do they hope to meet?
- Where was their most exciting summer? (They will share and you will get to know them better)
- Create a safe and comfortable setting where relationships can develop
- Have intimate seating areas so people can sit and get to know each other. Provide small cocktail tables for people to gather.
- Ensure that there is time during the meeting to meet and get acquainted. This is especially true if people have worked together for a long time. Add some pairs and activities for small groups to get to know each other.
- Seek ways to connect people together into meaningful relationships
- Set people at ease in unfamiliar surroundings

Kick-butt actions:
What are we scared of?
I hear from associates and friends about their fears and concerns about meeting new people and going to events. I hear comments like “I don’t know what to say” “I’ll be bored” “I feel like a fool” I hear those comments far more than I hear “I love going to these events! They are great!” Come to think of it…I’ve never heard that comment.
So….that means that most people feel the same way you do:
- They don’t know what to do
- They don’t know what to say
- They are uncomfortable
- They feel relieved when they see someone they know
Here are a few strategies to make you feel more comfortable. Make it a game that you will meet three new people. The hardest step you can take is to put out your hand and say “Hello, my name is Pegine. What is yours?”
I have NEVER, EVER seen anyone bite someone who did that!! I say that because we are afraid to do say hello. Fears mount within us. Fear that we will be rejected, laughed at or worse…think badly of us. What they think of me?
The truth is that you will NEVER know what they think of you. You’ll be too busy thinking the negative thoughts that you are thinking. They become so powerful that you freeze…not because of they think but because of what you are thinking.
Two quotes I heard embrace are “what you think of me is none of my business” and “Don’t go to dangerous neighborhoods in your mind”
Once you learn that the greatest fear is what WE THINK of our selves, we can do some kick butt actions. The main actions are:
- Change what you think about yourself:
- Change what you say about yourself, what you write about yourself and how you talk to yourself.
- Post supportive comments all around the house about yourself. Nurture support and cheer yourself.
When you go into a networking event, say to yourself:- “People love meeting me”
- “I love meeting new people”
- “I have so much to offer”
If you squirmed while reading what I wrote, you received a message. You have work to do, you may need to change what you think about yourself.
**********
Have You?- Cheered and applauded yourself?
- Given yourself a gift for a job well done?
- Looked in the mirror and told yourself how awesome you are?
- Really known in your heart that you are one fine piece of work. You are God’s gift to the world and you are.
