Pegine’s Thought of the Month:
Be like a swan – look confident, together and powerful for the world to
see…. and like a swan be paddling as hard as you can behind the scenes! It
is only when we combine the two that we truly achieve our goals.

Quotes of the Month:
"Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into
action is the most difficult thing in the world."

Try -its:
Challenge yourself to do the task that you hate doing. When my house starts
to need a major cleaning I invite someone over who I don’t know too well.
That’s the shove I need to get everyone involved with cleaning the house
from top to bottom. Everyone in my family gets focused on the job.
The same goes with my business. I have a sales funnel. I know that I have
to keep filling the funnel so that at the end of a series of steps there are
completed sales. By monitoring the funnel I can see where the holes are and
what I need to do to fill the holes. In order to fill the funnel I have to
do three steps. This month I’ll share step one.
One, make ten calls a day (minimum)
Everyone needs to have a network and to continually add to your network.
What is a network? It comes from the fishing term ‘working the net”.
Casting your net out in the ocean surf and pulling in the net to see what
you caught. In human relations it is meeting and calling people to bring
them closer to you. In time you catch opportunities that wouldn’t have
existed if you didn’t cast your net.
Casting my net is accomplished by calling 10 people a day to either
introduce myself to them, keep people informed about what I do and to find
out what they are doing, refer people to them that can help them out and ask
for referrals for my business.
In order to accomplish this task I use the old Clement Stone trick of
putting 10 beans on one side of my desk (these represent the 10 calls I’m
committed to doing). I move them to the other side of the desk after each
call until all ten beans are moved to the other side.
The calls are split in half. Five are cold calls to people I’ve never met
and who I think should meet. Five calls are to people I know (we may have
just met). I call them to bolster my relationship with them and to
strengthen my network. What is amazing with this process is that once you
get past the first 3 calls you are on a roll and can’t stop. Great for
business and great for life!
*Perhaps you think you’re not in a sales job and that this technique doesn't
’t apply to you, it does.
- If you are a parent who wants your children to have all of the
opportunities available to them you need to build a strong support network
with your children’s teachers, school administrators, sports teams, and
religious groups. Make the calls and build your network your children will
reap unbelievable rewards.
- If you are in a currently working in a support position within a company
you need to build a network within the company and within your professional
association. This network will bring you career opportunities. Use the calls
to build your network.
- If you are single and want to be in a relationship the best way to find a
mate is to build your social network.
Try it! You will be amazed at the results.

Books:
Organizing from the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern (Henry Holt and Co;
1998)
My priority is making everyone else in my life organized so I remain sane.
My personal space however always seemed to be at the bottom of the list and
of course I was always too tired to deal with it. When the book first came
out I brought it mainly because Julie is a professional associate and I
really wanted to support her. It had a place on my shelf. The other day I
was looking for something to read (actually I knew that I had to read
something that I could recommend for the newsletter). I picked Julie’s book.
I was surprised and grateful!
The book presents a simple, clear and fun way to re-organize my office and
closet (my two stress spots). My stress level decreased as I read this. I
said to myself "I can do this….and more importantly I can maintain it."
Look around you right now can you use a better organizing system? Can you
use any system?? If you are like me this is the book for you.
If you are a manager with staff that can use organizing help I highly
recommend this book. You can buy it in bulk through INTI Publishing (813)
881-1638.

Kick butt actions:
Don’t go it alone. Get a partner.
When you want to start a disciplined, daily activity that is not part of
your current routine take these four suggestions to heart, it’ll make it
easier to implement your new action.
1) Don’t do it alone, get a partner.
2) Have a clear plan.
3) Enjoy the Journey
4) Know that there is a beginning, middle and end.
The new action can be to better your business, your health, and your
relationships or to improve the overall quality of your life.
If you had told me that my husband and I would be race walking for 2 ½
miles a day I would have said that you are nuts. Nuts because first, you
said race walking and second, you said I was doing it with my husband David.
David is a sweetheart, however during the last 17 years of marriage I can’t
remember a time when he said, “Let’s take a walk.”
Guess what!! Your nuts.
Several months ago we started race walking together. We do it everyday
(well 90% of the days). We took the above suggestions and applied it to our
daily plan.
1) Have a partner who is committed to the program NO MATTER WHAT. It makes
a difference.
David comes in every morning and says let’s go. If we don’t leave
immediately he gets distracted and I have to ask “Aren’t we going?” It
keeps us focused.
2) Have a clear plan. Where are you going, how are you getting there and
when will the job be complete.
Time is precious to both of us. We know we must know when will we be done.
I have a certain amount of time I can commit and I need to know that we will
stick to the time. The route is planned and the pace is planned.
Personally it makes me feel confident I can and will do it.
3) Enjoy the journey.
We enjoy each other in a way I never would have imagined we could. We talk
about lots of things as we walk. Sometimes we just walk in silence and just
enjoy each other’s company.
4) There is a beginning, middle and an end.
It’s not a drawn out process. There are steps to take and when we do we
have results. Period. There is satisfaction throughout the process. The
completion of the daily walk is the prize.
