Pegine’s Thought Of The Month:
Leadership begins with trust.
Trust yourself – That your behavior will follow your values, your morals and your beliefs.
Trust your associates, your employees and your partners. If you don’t trust that they will do the job find someone else who will. You must truly trust their expertise, experience and know-how to get the job done.
Trust the process. Trust the mission and the vision that you create. If you don’t trust the mission and vision then change it until you do. Create a plan, trust the plan and implement it.

Quotes of the Month:
"You can't fake caring. If you really understand why leaders fail, it's because they are unable to care."
--Len Roberts, Chairman & CEO, Radio Shack

Try-its:
Here is a leadership try it. Try it even if you don’t consider yourself a leader – remember we are all leaders of our own lives.
Think of last week. Think of one instance when you weren’t pleased with your behavior, your communication style or your response to a certain situation.
Did you get an outcome that pleased you?
What outcome would you like to have had occur?
Review the situation and decide what you would have said differently or done differently.
How would this have changed the outcome?
What can you do today that might possibly change the outcome?
Decide if you are willing to do that. (Remember the formula for overcoming fear is courage + action)
Be willing to take the action.

Books:
True Leaders: How Exceptional CEOs and Presidents Make A Difference by Building People and Profits by Bette Price and George Ritcheske (Dearborn, $25 ISBM : 0-7931-4826-X)
Drawing on interviews with more than 25 CEOs and presidents-including Irv Hockaday of Hallmark Cards, Len Roberts from Radio Shack, Linda Huett from Weight Watchers International, Jim Copeland from Deloitte & Touche, and Ann Hambly from Prudential Asset Resources-authors Bette Price and George Ritcheske outline ten leadership principles that can make a difference in an era when profits alone are no longer the sole measure of success.
This book is a must read for anyone leading people. That is the key to the book. Every one of the CEOs highlighted put their people first. They understood that without the people there is no company, organization, product or service. An easy read I enjoyed the stories and meeting – through words – the various leaders highlighted.

Kick-butt actions:
Here are actions that can change the attitude in your office and it starts with you.
From the moment you walk into your building smile at everyone, look at their eyes and say hello. (Hey I’m from New York – If I can do it so can you.)
Think of one specific positive action that each co-worker or staff person said or did.
Tell them what you noticed. “Joe, I noticed that you cleaned up the area around the coffee machine, which was nice – thank you” “Mary I heard how you dealt with a difficult client, well done.” “Frank I know that you were frustrated. You acted like a true gentleman, good job”
Is there is someone who truly annoys and aggravates you?
Do you find yourself looking for the annoyances to add to your list of grievances? Instead, try this:
Change your behavior.
Write three positives about that person each day.
Really look for them and write them down. Sometimes we are so focused on the negative behavior that we never see the positive attributes, even though they are right in front of our eyes. Think of lost car keys.
