Be BOLD!

Pegine's Motivational Times Newsletter:

Title: Being BOLD
Copyright Pegine Echevarria, MSW 2003
Date: March 03 Volume 4 Issue 3

Are you BOLD? Do you live in an environment that is different than it was? Are you ready to try new and different things? Are you up to the challenge?

Being BOLD is the focus of this month's Motivational Times. People are concerned and worried; People fear for their future, their job, or lack of business. They are preoccupied with their concern for their children and the world at large. Getting stuck in fear and worry clouds the world of possibilities and opportunities. If you are feeling like this you aren't alone.

A sales manager of a division of a furniture manufacturer called me and said that he felt like a ping pong ball lately. His emotions ran the gamut from Optimism / Pessimism, Fear / Courage, Calm / Tense and everything in between. My staff is feeling the same way. To get them out of it I know that I've got to get out of my confusion and give myself direction. I know I need a good kick in the butt to tell me. Cut it out, it doesn't serve you or anyone else! You talk about being bold. Can you give me some strategies and tips for being BOLD?

This message is for you. The message is for all of you to kick yourself in the butt and take charge of your current condition. To encourage you to share with your family, staff and friends so that they can be bold and take charge of their thoughts and actions. If we don't take control of ourselves, our thoughts and attitudes then everyone loses.

Thank you in advance for forwarding this issue to your staff, co-workers, business associates and anyone interested in improving themselves, increasing sales, being a better leader while being motivated!

Try-its:

1. Stop thinking so much.
a. Too often people ponder, think, fret, evaluate, consider, reconsider and procrastinate before they take action. What they are thinking and fretting about is not based on realty or research. It is based on hearsay and the opinions of people who aren't experts on the subject. Have you really done the RESEARCH, or have you been listening to others because it's easier than taking the time to find our for yourself? Be BOLD. Bold is action oriented. It means you are taking steps, one at a time. Make the call, do the research, and take action.
a. Every project starts with an idea of what the end product will look like. Many projects stop because of fear, fear of the process. Degrees aren't started or completed, because it will be too hard. Inventions are left as ideas because don't know how. Sales opportunities are lost because you don't know what to say, so why bother calling. The answer is so simple that each of you can do it. Start by taking a class or picking up a brochure. Write down your invention idea, date it and then share it with SCORE of the Small Business Administration. Pick up the phone and say hello. Start simple and small. Be BOLD.

Kick-butt actions:

Being BOLD takes practice. So let's start small and increase your BOLD practice as you go.

1. Buy yourself. Just thinking of you card, write a note to yourself about what courage and strength you have. Send it to yourself. Just putting positive thoughts about your self on paper and mailing it takes Boldness. If people knew what you were doing they would say you're crazy, right? So you must be BOLD to do it.
2. Sing in the shower - So what if your neighbors, your friends or family hear you. Be BOLD and sing with joy. So what if they tease you. Are you going to be joyous or let others squash your enthusiasm? Take responsibility for your personal joy.
3. Write a colleague whom you admire. Tell them why you admire them and what you have learned from them. Most people don't know how they have made a difference in someone's life unless you tell them. Be BOLD and tell someone how they made a difference. Hey, if I made a difference let me know! Today is my birthday and it would be a great present!
4. Clarify a situation with someone. Be BOLD and clarify a situation. Ask the questions so you can understand the situation. Often the issue occurred because of miscommunication. Be BOLD and ask questions.
