Laugh, Enjoy and Live Today! This past weekend I spent time with my in-laws participating in St. Augustine’s Night of Lights. We toured the city looking at the holiday lights on The Big Red Train while the speakers pumped holiday music. There were about 50 people on the train and hundreds walking through the streets when I noticed a problem. Everyone was being so grown up! Few people were smiling, laughing or looking happy. I started singing along with the songs, waving to people on the street and wishing them Merry Christmas – the kind of thing teenagers would do. Little by little train participants joined in. We connected with each other, smiling and enjoying our little trip. When the trip was over people were happy because we made a difference. Laugh, enjoy and live today by making a difference. Smile, be proactive and make life special.

Try-its:

Break out of your typical night routine and play a prank on a friend.

Two weeks ago I woke up and went for a walk with the dog. As a returned to the house I notice a large candy cane sticking out of the ground and over fifty plastic forks stuck in the ground in lines. Curious, I look at the display.

I went inside thinking my daughter had come up with a new display. “No Mom it wasn’t me,” I asked my husband “No it wasn’t me,” I asked my son “No Mom it wasn’t me,” We all stood outside really curious about the display. I left it there.

Over the next week neighbors would stop by and ask about it. We all began to laugh and try to come up with the how and why. My four year old nephews knew who it was, “Santa planted a candy cane field for all of the kids. The forks tell where the seeds are.”

Three weeks later candy canes have begun appearing. I glued them onto the forks. The neighborhood kids are all excited.

My daughter’s high school friends are laughing and laughing. We since found out that two of her friends did it as a joke. It was a great joke. The whole neighborhood has become part of the joke. My nephews are excited because the candy canes have sprouted!

Kick-butt actions:

Here are tips I use when I find myself getting ‘too grown up’

1) Skip. Skip down your block. Swing your arms and skip with gusto.
2) Sing a wacky camp song at the top of your lungs. So what if your kids and family might yell “Be quiet!” This is for you!
3) Play with Play-doh®
4) Make silly noises with you mouth or face.
5) Use a straw to blow bubbles in a glass of milk.
6) Play with your dog, cat or gerbil.
